Get a third off with a railcard!

Hi everyone,

railcardI want to let you know about the '16 - 25' Young Persons Railcard. This is a railcard that gives a 1/3 off  ALL train fares, with any train company, lasting for one year and costing just £26. This is a fairly good price as within a few train journeys the amount you will save cancels out the price of the railcard!

You can purchase this railcard in the ticket office at York train station. When you go there you will need a form of I.D, either a passport or driving license to prove your age, and a passport sized photograph.

Although the card is for 16-25 year old workers and students, if you are 25 or over and a student, you can still buy the railcard. You will need to shows an ISIC card (International Student Identity Card), NUS card featuring the ISIC logo or complete and certify the 'Mature Students only' section of the application form. This form needs to be certified by the establishment where you are studying.

Please note that when you use the 16-25 railcard, you need to purchase any ticket you buy before going on the train, as they don't allow you the discount when buying your ticket on the train. If you are booking your train tickets in advance online (which if you do that it is often cheaper, the earlier you book, the cheaper the ticket will be. Up to two days before you buy the ticket is when the tickets are cheaper, with one day or on the day of travel, not making a difference to price) you need to make sure you press the option that you have the card so that you get the discount when buying it.

On www.nationalrail.co.uk it is in the option 'Add Railcard' and then you go down the menu to find '16-25 RAILCARD'

On www.thetrainline.com it is in the option 'Railcards' and then you go down for '16-25 RAILCARD'

When you use your discounted ticket on your journeys, you need to always have your 16-25 Railcard with you to prove that you are eligible to have the discount.
