Tandem and Buddy Scheme
Tandem
If you would fancy practising languages with
someone on a regular basis and sharing your experience, you
definitely need a tandem partner!
The idea is to put two students in touch with each
other in order, first, to meet once a week and spend
half the time speaking one language and half
speaking the other. It can be English/your native language,
or another language that your learned and that you want to practice
more.

Jen and Lucile (English/French
tandem, 2008/2009)
Tandem partners can also help each other with work,
talk about things which interest them both, meet at each others'
houses, go out for coffee, drinks, films… in few words, to
speak lots and have fun!!
If you are interested in finding a tandem partner, do not
hesitate in letting us know by contacting us at erasmussoc@gmail.com.
If for some reason things don't work out with your partner, you
can e-mail us again and we will try and put you in touch with
someone else. It's not a problem and you won't have to explain why
you want to change!

Buddy Scheme
Remember when you first arrived at a new university, especially
if it was a placement abroad? There's so much to discover and so
many exciting things, but also lots of scary things, too - new
people, new places, maybe a different language, a different
culture, new ways of doing things. We know from experience that if
you go to study in a new country, it's so helpful to have
someone there who can help you out a bit, show you how things are
done and just generally be someone to chat to.
We're trying to set up a 'buddying' scheme, so that
Erasmus students who come to study in York are put in contact
with a student who is already in York, preferably before
they come. This student would then be able to answer some of their
questions, maybe help them out with things like bank accounts and
mobile phones, show them around a bit and generally be a friendly
face.
If you'd like to get involved in this and will be in York next
term, please e-mail
us as soon as possible, I'll be really happy to hear from you!
We need buddy volunteers, so don't be shy and come along!
